    GIOLLA BRIGHDE MAC CON MIDHE cct.

  1. A theachtaire thig ón Róimh
    le n-a síoltar gach seanmóir
    déana mar a-deir an peann,
    ní gheibh séala achd an sgríbheann.
  2. Tabhair mar tugadh a-noir
    crois ó chomharba Pheadair;
    duille doirche gan drud ris
    má do-ug toirche thairis.
  3. Mar do ráidheadh ins an Róimh
    leasuighthear—lór do sheanmóir; [corrigenda]
    níor bh'éidir glór oile ann
    do bud lór d'oire a fhulang.
  4. Níor hiomráidheadh san Róimh ribh
    díochur na gcliar, a chléirigh;
    fríoth ó neamhRóimh éigin uaibh
    seanmóir éididh re héanuair.
  5. Caidhe an sgríbheann 'n-ar sgríobhadh
    an ealadha d'aithríoghadh?
    déana mar do fhógair inn,
    tógaibh séala do sgríbhinn.
  6. Focal nach fríoth i leabhraibh
    gan ní ar éigse n-ildealbhaigh;
    is léigheann gránna Gallda
    dámha Éireann d'ionnarba.
  7.  p.221"Donum Dei" an dán binn
    i gceartlár cuirp an léighinn;
    gaibh é is casgair a chéill;
    "asgaid Dé" sain go soiléir.
  8. Gan a luach ar na laoidhibh
    má a-dearar le deaghdhaoinibh
    do ráidh gan aoradh gach fhir
    do shaoradh cháigh, a chléirigh.
  9. Más do mhian méaduighthe an lóin
    beantar d'éigsibh a n-anóir
    nach lór, a chléirigh, re chais
    lón gach éinfhir 'n-a éagmhais?
  10. Ciodh um nar dhíochuir an dán
    ar dtoigheacht a tír Romhán
    Pádraig an iris do b'fhearr
    a hinis fhádbhuig Éireann?
  11. Créad thug ar Colum Cille
    nach fionnfadh achd fírinne
    gach Dar-daoin ag dul ar neamh,
    crodh ar laoidh mar do léigeadh.
  12. Do hionnarbadh eacht oile
    cliara Fódla féaraighe;
    a gcomhall do na cliaraibh
    ó Cholam an chéidbhliadhain.
  13. Tug gér oirrdhearc an t-eineach
    Mo Bhí cráibhtheach Cláireineach
    a shaoghal féin—fial an gníomh—
    don chléir do iarr gér bh'fhairbhríogh.
  14. Tugadh lé ar an laoidh n-uallaigh,
    gér athchuinghidh anuabhair,
    an bhróg do chuir an dealbh dhi;
    go dearbh{}í fhuil impe.
  15. Duais nach tiubhradh damh duine
    do-bhéara mac mórMhuire;
    do-gheabh ar duain dom dheaghdhán
    neamh mar fhuair Ó hIfearnán.
  16. Moladh daoine is dó as mholadh
    an neach do-ní a gcruthoghadh;
    ní bhí ar domhan ag duine
    ní achd moladh a mhíorbhuile.
  17.  p.222Rinn gach roinn, rinn gach meadhra,
    ag teacht tar an Tighearna;
    foghar gach tuile re tír
    moladh uile don Airdrígh.
  18. Gémadh bréag do bhiadh san duain
    is bréag bhuan ar bhréig dhiombuain:
    bréag uile gidh créad an cradh,
    bréag an duine dá ndéantar.
  19. Ní ba liai-de ór ná each
    ag duine dámadh doichleach;
    gan sbéis i nduain ar domhan
    dá mbuaibh ní ba buanoghadh.
  20. Dá mbáidhtí an dán, a dhaoine,
    gan seanchas gan seanlaoidhe

  27.  p.223Muna leasaighdís laoidhe
    a ndearnsad, gér dheaghdhaoine,

    na filidh fréamha a lubhghuirt
    slata teaghlach na dtrí mbrogh,
    Dá Thí Teamhrach is Tuathal.
  29. Ní bhiadh muna mbeith an dán
    ag cruit téidbhinn ná ag tiompán
    fios deighfhir ar n-a dhala
    ná a einigh ná a eangnamha.
  30. Fios a seanchais ná a saoire
    ní fhuighbhidís arddaoine;
    léigid so i ndán do dhéanaimh
    nó no slán dá seinsgéalaibh.
  31. Dá mbáidhtí seanchas chlann gCuinn
    agus bhar nduana, a Dhomhnuill,
