Edited by Thomas F. O'Rahilly

Whole text

  1. Mairg duine bhíos antuigseach, —
    dhamh féin bheanas an focal;
    ní le súil a santaigheann,
    uch! ní leamsa an ní ad-chonnarc.
  2. Téighim do thaobh m'ainbhfis-se
    d'fhéachain mná na mbas mbairrsheang;
    do b'fhearr gabháil thairsise,
    seachnaidh súil ní nách bhfaiceann.
  3. Mise ag déanamh antuigse,
    drud ria ar fhuráil m'aignidh;
    is lia fear dar bh'altaighthe
    a leithéid uaidhe d'fhaicsin.
  4. Dhise ar feadh m'amhairc-se
    tarla mé, mór an uirrim;
    nár fhaice súil anduine
    feabhas na háite a bhfuilim.
  5. Ar dhrud re a dreich shéaghanta
    ó nách bhfuil árach agam,
    gabhaim cead a féachsana, —
    buidhe le bocht a bhfaghann.
  6. I ngar dá cruth drithleannach
    fada bhím 's gan bheith uaisti;
    dar leat, is mé an t-ifreannach
    do bhí fá bhun na cruaiche.

  8. Dá mbeinn-se i n-áit aonaráin
    's an bhean-san, gér thaom dána,
    níor-bh'fhearr an liaigh Iopragáid
