A bhean chridhe chompánta

Eochaidh Ó hEoghusa

Edited by Thomas F. O'Rahilly

Whole text

     p.126
  1. A bhean chridhe chompánta,
    mar taoi, is amhlaidh do shaoileas;
    bídh ann, a shuairc shoghrádhach,
    faol oile i gcroiceann caoireach.
  2. Má tá nách beinn láindíleas,
    beag mo shuim ar thoil ndéinmhe;
    do bhí mise im chláiríneach,
    tuigim bacaighe bhréige!
  3. Bíodh a dheimhin agaibhse
    arís oram nách brisfe;
    ná fliuch dá thaobh t'fhallainge,
    ná caill cách oile is mise.
  4. Misde a fhad gur aithneamar
    h'éadach agad 'gá iompádh;
    ní misde! ní loisgeabh-sa
    an mhéad mhaireas dom thiompán.
  5. Do bhí mise i gConnachtaibh
    seal fada ag foghlaim chluana;
    ná bean dúinn san obair-se,
    ní fhuil ionnad acht tuata!
  6. Do b'fhada mé neamhthuigseach,
    luach mo mhúinte díom dlighe;
    mé feasta ní meallfaidhear;
    beannacht duit, a bhean chridhe.
  7.  p.129
  8. A fhir chroidhe charaim-se,
    do-bheir do thoil 'na tuile,
    saoiltear le gach gadaighe
    nách díleas neach sa chruinne.
  9. Atá tusa malairteach,
    ní dhéanaim bacaighe bhréige;
    atáim umad amhairseach
    ó do bhraitheas do mhéin-se.
  10. Neach mar thú ní fhacasa;
    cách ort ní chaillfe mise;
    ní fhuil fliuch dom mhatal-sa
    acht an mhéad do bhean ribhse.
  11. Mise choidhche ód chaidreamh-sa
    do chaillis, más luach tiompáin;
    ná bíodh ort 'na aithreachas
    a bhfuil liomsa dod dhioghbháil.
  12. Dá mbeinn le cluain d'ealadhain,
    más cléireach mé nó tuata,
    ar neach do fhóirfeadh mh'anacair
    do rachainn do chur cluana.
