Each panel of the Cross of the Scriptures at Clonmacnois, Co. Offaly, is framed separately. The cross shaft and base have
roll moulding at their edges, and each panel is separated by a projecting frame. It is noticeable that the arms of the cross
tilt upwards.

Jesus is depicted lying flat under a large stone (tombstone) at the base of the panel. A bird is sitting at the end of the
stone and leaning over with its beak touching Jesus' mouth. Above this are two sleeping soldiers with helmets and spears.
The figure at the side of the panel is an angel. ? small figure in front of the angel, Harbison suggests that this is Adam,
(Harbison, 1992, p.22).
