Biography
Patricia Fehin is a Lecturer-Practitioner, Gerontological Nursing in the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery at University College Cork and coordinates the Post Graduate Certificate/Diploma/MSc Gerontological Nursing programme. She holds degrees of BNS from University College Dublin, BCL from University College Cork and MSc (Healthcare Ethics and Law) from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. As a Registered General Nurse, Patricia has extensive clinical nursing experience including general medicine, neurosurgery, intensive care, coronary care, older adult nursing and practice development; experience has been gained in both the UK and Ireland. She lectures on the undergraduate (BSc Nursing) and post graduate (Post Graduate Diploma/Certificate in Gerontological Nursing and Post Graduate Certificate in Nurse Prescribing) nursing programs at UCC and also has a student support remit within the older people services, and the acute hospital (medical and surgical). She is a member of the All Ireland Gerontological Nurse's Association (AIGNA). Her research topic for the BCL degree explored the relationship between socio-economic rights and Irish constitutional law, with emphasis on access to health care and education for children with disability and other marginalized groups. Her MSc thesis explored legal and ethical issues of capacity and the right to refuse life-sustaining medical treatment. Patricia's current research interest focuses on end-of-life, decision making capacity and ensuing ethical concerns.Research Interests
