Teaching Interests

I deliver foundation teaching in archaeology to First Year students in the BA degree. This

involves an introduction to the discipline of archaeology, its history, theoreticalconcerns and methods. The course also provides a general introduction to Irish prehistoryin a European context. My responsibility at second and third year BAlevel is to deliver foundation-level teaching in European prehistory, as well as  advanced teachingon Irish prehistory.

I am programme director for a new postgraduate degree in UCC, the MA in Archaeological Excavation that commenced in October 2010. This full-time course will provide advanced training in the theory and practice of excavation, which is a key area in the practice of archaeology as an academic and professional discipline.

I have a particular interest in adult education, recognizing the important contribution that enthusiastic mature students can make to local archaeology and heritage protection. I teach in the evening Certificate in Archaeology offered by UCC. I  regularly lecture to local and national societies.
