I teach across a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules in geography. I aim to align my teaching with broader societal challenges and am committed to education for sustainable development, connecting specifically with sustainable development goals related to diversity, equality, and inclusion, as well as sustainable cities and communities. I am committed to inclusive and learning-centred teaching practices, using enquiry-based, active and participatory methods, to assist students to develop core graduate attributes. I engage with action-orientated pedagogies to aid students to deepen their knowledge of urban geography by being active in the construction of that knowledge, while building a range of skills and competencies that will have utility in many spheres of life. I am also committed to continuing professional development for teaching and learning and have recently completed the Digital Badges for Autism Awareness (2021), Universal Design for Learning (2020) and the Connected Curriculum (2021).

Research Interests

I am an urban social geographer with interests in cities and social change, the new geographies of exclusion in cities as well as teaching and learning urban geography. I have a number of ongoing projects in the following research areas:

Geographies of Exclusion: I am interested in the social and spatial exclusions in the city, new and emerging geographies of exclusion in the city, as well as urban planning and policy responses.

Cities of Difference: My interests here revolve around the inclusion of difference within the city, drawing on the geographies of encounter, together with feminist geographies and intersectionality.

Teaching & Learning Urban Geography: My interests in this area include learning-centred and action-oriented pedagogies for urban geography, the incorporation of spatially plural urban geographies into teaching, learning and assessment practice in urban geography, and, decolonising teaching, learning and assessment in urban geography.
