Following the completion of a degree in Psychology at Trinity College Dublin (graduated 2005, First Class Honours), I obtained my PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience. My thesis was entitled ‘The effects of catecholaminergic system genes on executive functions: A behavioural and fMRI study’. In it, I investigate the impact of a number of genes responsible for the action of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and noradrenaline on cognitive functions and their neural correlates.

I subsequently worked as a postdoctoral scientist in the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, Cambridge and the Division of Brain Sciences at Imperial College London.

Research Interests

My research interests include the cognitive

 processes of attention and working memory, and the manner in which they interact. I am additionally interested in the modulation of these processes by other factors, including genetic variants and emotional state.

 I use neuroimaging techniques such as functional MRI to investigate the neural underpinnings of these cognitive functions.
