Biography

I am a lecturer in the School of Applied Psychology and a member of the People & Technology research group https://www.ucc.ie/en/apsych/research/groups/patlab/ and the BEATS (Biology, Emotions & Transitions Studies) lab http://beatslab.ucc.ie

Research Interests

My research interests primarily relate to understanding attention and memory in everyday scenarios.

Current Projects:

*Memory distortion after a major public event: In collaboration with colleagues in University of California, Irvine and University College Dublin, I am currently running a large-scale longitudinal study assessing memories for the 2018 Irish abortion referendum. Our studies include investigations of susceptibility to fake news, flashbulb memories, voter well-being and voter reasoning.

In addition to this, I am also conducting research on a number of other applied cognitive issues:

Eyewitness memory - examining the effect of perceptual and cognitive load, emotion & post-event experiences on eyewitness accuracy.

Real world inattentional blindness & change blindness - examining predictors of inattentional blindness and change blindness in everyday settings (e.g. driving, education).

Driving - with industry partners Liberty Insurance Ireland, we are examining risk factors in young drivers and interventions to improve cognitive performance in driving.
