Biography

Lisa is an Irish Research Council Postgraduate Awardee in Applied Psychology at University College Cork, and a 2018-2019 Fulbright Ireland Student Awardee. Lisa is passionate about science communication and community outreach. She is a member of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, the Society for Judgement and Decision-Making, the Psychonomic Society, the European Health Psychology Society, the , the International Time Perspective Network, and the BEATS (Biology, Emotions & Transitions Studies) lab at UCC.

Research Interests

Lisa's research interests lie in understanding the influence of psychological time (i.e. the subjective experience and perceptions of the past, present and future) on human behaviour, including risk behaviour, health behaviour, and compulsive behaviour, and how this understanding might be applied to developing bespoke behaviour change interventions. Lisa has also conducted research on episodic future thinking, disordered eating, adverse childhood experiences and the identification and evaluation of behaviour change techniques (BCTs) in tailored e-health feedback videos. She is currently conducting research on collective narcissism for past and future events in an Irish population.

Outreach Activities

	Description
	London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF): I am a science communication mentor and guest host at the 2019 LIYSF event. LIYSF is a two week student event held annually in London which attracts 500 of the world’s leading young scientists aged 16-21 years old from more than 75 participating countries.
	Science Communication Trainer: I deliver science communication training and workshops to secondary schools students in Cork, college students in UCC as part of a postgraduate training module, and to STEM researchers in UCC and the University of Limerick.
	Pint of Science Speaker 2018. Pint of Science invites scientists to local bars to discuss their latest research and discoveries with the general public. In May 2018 I spoke at the Cork Pint of Science Festival.
	PsychSlam Coordinator: PsychSlam is an annual science communication competition for Irish transition year students hosted by the School of Applied Psychology. My duties as one of three coordinators include mentoring secondary school and undergraduate students, providing training in science communication, media and public relations, and hosting the event.
	SchoolLab France Mentor: SchoolLab France is a science communication initiative for adolescents, funded by the French Ministry of Education. It aims to help students understand challenging scientific concepts, embrace creativity in research, develop critical thinking skills and communicate them effectively in English. My role as a mentor includes holding Skype sessions in Ireland and travelling to France in once a year to mentor and train groups of secondary school students in science literacy and communication.
	Seminar Series Coordinator: For the past two academic years, I have been one of two coordinators of the Seminar Series in the School of Applied Psychology. This involves organising weekly seminars, inviting local and international guest speakers to present their research in the School of Applied Psychology, chairing sessions, hosting speakers, and ensuring that relevant audiences within and outside UCC are informed of upcoming seminars.
	Science Festival Presentations: I have presented at the Czech Republic Science Festival and the Midlands Ireland Science Festival, both funded by the British Council.
	BT Young Scientist Mentor: The BT Young Scientist Competition is one of the longest standing science competitions for second level students in Ireland. Since 2015, I have mentored secondary school student competitors, providing guidance and support throughout the project design, data collection and analysis process.
	TY Event 2016 Coordinator: In February 2016 I was on the organising committee for a 3-day TY Event in the School of Applied Psychology. We welcomed over 30 TY students from all over Munster. They participated in a range of activities to learn more about Psychology, UCC and the School.
	Cork Culture Night: Cork Culture Night is an annual event that celebrates and promotes culture, engagement and creativity. Educational, arts and cultural organisations open their doors to the general public, running workshops and activities to enhance cultural experience. I have coordinated a number of activities in the School of Applied Psychology each year, e.g. BrainGames to educate people on perception and memory, gratitude and mindfulness tasks to promote stress reduction, and change blindness and eyewitness tasks to highlight the fallibility of attention.

	Description
	Conference Organisation: I served on Scientific Committee and Local Organising Committee for the 13th Annual Psychology, Health and Medicine Conference, which was hosted by the School of Applied Psychology in May 2016. My roles included reviewing abstracts and selecting oral and poster presentations, developing the conference programme, designing the programme booklet and book of abstracts, chairing oral presentation sessions and designing conference flyers, posters and banners.
	Seminar Series Coordinator: In 2016/2017 and 2017/2018, I was one of two coordinators of the Seminar Series in the School of Applied Psychology at UCC.
