Teaching Activities

Teaching Interests

Topics in psychology including Social, Developmental, Biological and Health psychology. I'm currently a lecturer on the Certificate in Arts (Psychology) Level 6 course in ACE, teaching the AD1065 module An Introduction to Social and Developmental Perspectives in Psychology. Additionally, my teaching interests lie in the fields of human-computer interaction and research methods and statistical analysis.

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy focuses on inclusivity and is scaffolded by a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework. My philosophy is also underpinned by a Teaching for Understanding (TfU) approach which enables students to apply the knowledge they have learned to unique settings, allowing for a true mastery of the subject matter. My philosophy also incorporates the idea that education and learning can be applied to real-world settings, and as such I strive to ensure students are furnished with relevant skills as well as the necessary theoretical knowledge. Embedding theory in practice is essential for a deeper understanding of the subject matter, and my philosophy of teaching aims to incorporate techniques and strategies that encourage deep learning and fosters active learning (Biggs, 2012). In order to achieve this I have adopted a level 3 teaching approach as defined by Biggs (2012), this is a learner focused approach. My teaching philosophy holds the student at the heart, with an understanding that no two students are the same. It is my overall goal to provide a learning environment that builds on students’ strengths and allows for multiple means of action and expression when examining achievement of the learning outcomes.
