Féilim Ó Hadhmaill

Biography

Dr. Féilim Ó hAdhmaill is a lecturer in the School of Applied Social Studies, University College Cork, Cork, Ireland.  He is Programme Director for the Masters in Voluntary and Community Sector Managment and also teaches social policy across a number of degree programmes including the B.Soc.Sc,the Bachelor in Social Work, the M.SocSc in Social Policy and the  MA in Criminology      He also coordinates the 'Conflict, Transformation and Peace Building Specialism on the Masters in Social Policy.

Feilim graduated from Ulster University with a PhD in Social Policy in 1990. His PhD thesis was concerned with community development and organisation and the conflict in the north of Ireland.  He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (U.C.C.) and the Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge Fheidhmeach (U.C.C.) and in addition, he is also a qualified therapeutic counsellor. 

Féilim has a background in community education as well as teaching and researching at university. His main research interests have been around social inclusion, equality and human rights. His current research and teaching interests include: Féilim is a research associate with the Institute for Social Sciences in the 21st Century (ISS21) and a member of the Civil Society and the SHAPE research clusters.  
He is currently supervising PhD students in the areas of
community development
conflict and peace building

He has acted as an External Examiner at  the University of Limerick, Limerick Institute of Technology, Cork Institute of Technology, NUI Maynooth, University of Ulster, Queens University, Belfast and the University of Malta (including the External Examination of PhD Theses). 

In recent years he has been an visiting lecturer at Universidad del País Vasco, St Mary's College of Education, Queens University, Belfast, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland and University of Applied Sciences, Dresden Germany.

Féilim has a strong background working in the community and voluntary sector North and South, having worked with NICVA, NIACAB, and the Falls Community Council.  He has served on the Boards of several community and voluntary bodies at national, regional and local level and currently serves on the Board of Community Work Ireland and on the UCC IFUT committee.  He also has a background in the promotion of the Irish Language and has served on a number of bodies such as the North’s statutory Council for Irish Medium Education (Comhairle na nGaelscolaíochta).   He has been a representative of the patron body An Foras Patrúnachta on the board of a local Gaelscoil in Cork (2013-present).

Research Interests

Feilim's  current research interests include:
  • Conflict and Peace Building 
  • Social Policy, Social Inclusion, Equality and Human Rights
  • Voluntary and Community Sector
He invites inquiries from prospective students interested in carrying out PhD research in any of the above areas.

He has supervised PhD students through to completion in the areas of Community Development and Education.  

He is a research associate with the Institute for Social Sciences in the 21st Century (ISS21
and a member of the Civil Society and the SHAPE research clusters at UCC.  He is also a member of the international academic working group Human Rights Universal and Global (HRUG).
