Biography
Joanne is a CORU-registered social worker with postgraduate qualifications in social policy, social work, advanced fieldwork practice and supervision (social work), and teaching and learning in higher education.
Responsible for coordinating placements for social work students, Joanne works within higher education to the
accreditation standards for professional practice set by the social work registration board at CORU.
Qualified since 2003 Joanne’s practice experience is primarily in foster care and child and adult disability services. Joanne has also worked and volunteered with organisations prior to and post qualification in practice areas including child and adolescent mental health, child protection social work, family support work and migration and with a community based adult disability service in USA.
Research Interests
Key research interests include social work practice teaching, placements, fieldwork education and participatory research. With research colleagues Joanne is interested in exploring and questioning the opportunities, challenges and innovation that is possible within social work education relating to practice teaching and fieldwork placements.
A member of the International Network of Co-operative Inquirers since 2019, Joanne is engaged with co-operative inquiry, a collaborative research methodology underpinned by values of social justice and inclusion.
