Julia Collins is an experienced teacher with a demonstrated history of Modern Foreign Language (MFL) tuition in Irish-Medium Education. Currently working as a Lecturer of Education in University College Cork and researching for her Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD), Julia is exploring Cross-sectoral Communities of Practice for MFL Instruction in Irish-Medium Education. Coming from both Assistant Principal I & II roles in co-educational and DEIS Post-primary settings, Julia is committed to advancing scholarship and research output through her awarded COGG funding (An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta) and aims to pursue future studies in the field of second language acquisition in Irish Immersion education.
Course design and module development in the field of language and bilingual pedagogy, translanguaging and plurilingualism in the contemporary post-primary classroom are some of Julia’s other key research areas of interest.
Julia Collins is a passionate, interdisciplinary teacher educator who enjoys engaging student teachers in dialogue about the complex field of language, linguistic inclusivity, teaching, and teacher education. An acute professional goal of Julia’s is to contribute to future generation teachers’ competencies in everchanging multilingual and multicultural societies along with the promotion of educational inclusivity and global citizenship.
