Siobhán qualified as a post-primary teacher in 1990, and registered (open-register) with the Registration Council of Ireland to teach Religious Education and Music. Siobhán served as Head of Religious Education and Head of Liturgical Music in schools in Co. Dublin, Co. Kildare, and Co. Cork.
Current Responsibilities: School of Education, UCC
Siobhán has worked in the School of Education since 1999. She is currently a tutor and placement supervisor of PME 2 students, lecturer of Religious Education Pedagogy (PME 1 & PME 2), Music Pedagogy (PME 1 & PME 2), Philosophy of Education (PME 1),The Collaborative Seminar (PME 2), and a supervisor of the Professional Research Paper (PME 2). She is also a supervisor of PhD and MEd dissertations.

She presented two papers at the University of Cambridge, in January 2019 and September 2019. In March 2020, she has been invited to present a paper at the Sacred Sound Conference at the University of Tuebingen (19th March 2020).
Siobhán was awarded a research travel award grant to visit the Kurt Weill Archives in New York, 2014, and in November 2014, she was awarded an Erasmus + Staff Mobility training award to visit the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge as a Visiting Scholar.

Siobhan Dowling is author of one monograph, The Sacrifice of Isaac: The Reception of a Biblical Story in Music. Sheffield: Phoenix Press, 2013, co- author of one book, The Bible in Music: A Dictionary of Songs, Works and More. Lanham; Boulder; New York; London: Rowman and Littlefield 92015), a co-edited book Reading the Sacred Scriptures: From Oral Tradition to Written Documents and their Reception. London; New York: Routledge 2017, seven book chapters, and three peer-reviewed journal articles. Siobhan is interested in the Arts in Education and the reception of the Bible in art and music. Siobhan has recently given an important keynote address at the University of Leuven, Belgium on the musical reception of the Books of Samuel (July 2014), and has published with C. Mercier a chapter on ‘Art and Music in RE’ in Teaching RE Creatively. New York and London: Routledge, 2014 (Routledge Textbook of the Month). Siobhan is engaged in ongoing research in Reception theory, Religious Education, and the Arts in Education. She was a Visiting Scholar at the Kurt Weill Archives New York in August 2014 and at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge in November 2014.
