Joseph Moynihan

Biography

Joe is from Dungarvan, Co. Waterford and is currently a full-time member of staff in the School of Education in University College Cork, Ireland. He is currently the Director of the Educational Leadership Post-Graduate Programme (PDEL). He is the module coordinator on all of the modules on this Level 9 programme. Mentoring & Coaching is a key module on the PDEL and is designed to develop professional skills for participating teachers/professionals allowing them to successfully contribute to school/organisational improvement in their own variety of contexts. To further broaden and deepen his knowledge in the field of coaching, Joe has completed a two year MSc in Personal & Management Coaching at UCC graduating in 2022.

Joe is also a lecturer/tutor in Initial Teacher Education (Professional Master of Education, PME) and writes and delivers modules on the Masters in Education modular programme where he has  developed a series of new and exciting Educational Leadership and Management modules to meet the significant demand for study in this area at UCC. He also supervises research students at Masters and PhD level at the university.
 
Formerly, Joe was a teacher of French, Geography and Art, Craft and Design in post-primary education for 20 years. Having qualified as a Guidance Counsellor, this was followed by four years working in that role full-time prior to serving as a Deputy Principal and Principal in a large post-primary school for a further eight years.   

His research interests include educational leadership, educational coaching, professional coaching, socio-cultural learning, collaborative practice, work-based learning, intelligence studies and education in general.

Joe serves as an external examiner on the MA in Management in Education at SETU. He is also a director on the Board of Directors of the Irish Augustinian Schools Trust and the Dungarvan Enterprise Board and on The Board of Directors of the Dungarvan Enterprise Centre.
