Mark Prendergast

Biography

Dr. Mark Prendergast is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education, University College Cork. He is a graduate of Physical Education and Mathematics (BSc.(Hons.), 2007), and Mathematics Education (PhD, 2011) from the University of Limerick. He has held previous positions in the National Centre for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and Learning (University of Limerick), in the Dublin Institute of Technology, and in Trinity College Dublin. His key research interests include mathematics education, teacher education, and working with non-traditional students.

Research Interests

My research interests all stem from my passion to improve teaching and learning. This is the unifying focus for my research programme which is centred upon three main themes:
  1. Mathematics Education 
  2. Teacher Education
  3. Non – Traditional Students

Teaching Interests

I have a long-standing interest and passion for teaching and I think this is demonstrated by my foremost chosen career as a secondary school teacher and my subsequent decision to pursue a PhD with a focus on effective teaching. To date, I have a wide variety of teaching experiences which have helped me develop my skills and appreciate the importance of teaching. Such experiences have differed in terms of class sizes and students from different levels, abilities and cultures (primary, secondary and tertiary level, students with ID, Access and International students).
