Biography
Senior Lecturer in French and Applied Linguistics, I teach a range of courses reflecting my areas of research specialisation in Second Language Acquisition, Sociolinguistics and Canadian Studies. I am currently Chair of the Board of Applied Linguistics as well as Director of the BA International, and have previously served as Chair of the Board of Language & Cultural Studies.
I have held various positions within a number of (inter)national associations. I am currently Vice-President of the European Second Language Association (EUROSLA), and have previously served on the International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) [Director-at-Large / Secretary / Treasurer], Association for Canadian Studies in Ireland (ACSI) [President, Secretary], and Irish Association of Applied Linguistics (IRAAL). I am founding co-convenor of the AILA Research network on 'Study ABroad and Language Learning'. I have organised a number of international conferences, including the Annual Conference of the European Second Language Association (EuroSLA 19), and a Language Learning Roundtable. A former recipient of the Prix du Québec, I have previously received two Government of Ireland Research Awards from the IRCHSS, and a 'New Foundations' award from the Irish Research Council. I have also held two Canadian Government Faculty Awards in Canadian Studies.

- Second Language Acquisition, with particular reference to the acquisition of French;
- Sociolinguistics (particularly of French and English;
- Canadian Studies, with special reference to the (socio-)linguistic study of French-English bilingualism, Dynamics of Canadian French, French Immersion Education;
