Biography

Dragan Miladinović is a University Language Teacher at the Department of German, UCC. He joined
the Department of German in the role of Austrian Academic Exchange Lecturer (OeAD) in August 2015 and has since taught language, literature, and linguistics across all years of the undergraduate programmes. In the MA Translation, he teaches GE6014 translation into German and supervises translation projects in the module LL6035. He has co-supervised/co-examined theses in MA Applied Linguistics and MA Translation. Dragan has also contributed to the teaching of the MA Applied Linguistics, convening the module "Language Teaching and Post-Colonialism" in  2016 and 2017. He is currently the coordinator for First Year Language, the Languages for All-programme, as well as the German language side for the programmes MA in Translation and the HDip in Advanced Languages and Global Communication. He is also in charge of the departmental evening class program and serves as the departmental webmaster.

Dragan completed the BA Translation Studies with working languages German, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and French and the MA German as a Foreign and Second Language at the University of Vienna. He also completed several modules in the MA Translation Studies at the University of Vienna. In 2014, he obtained his master’s degree in German as a Foreign and Second Language with a thesis on the term „Zweitsprache" (second language), analysing the potential discriminatory practice behind it and inherent social consequences for people being labelled by this term. In 2018, he completed the postgraduate course Teaching at Higher Education Institutions Abroad: Further Qualification for University Lecturers at the University of Vienna. Since 2020, he is a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA), and in April 2021, he received the Teaching Hero Award by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

Dragan embarked on his professional teaching career in 2011, when he started teaching German as a Second Language at multiple institutions for further education in Austria as well as tailor-made courses for companies.

Aside from teaching, Dragan has held several workshops of further education/professional development for German teachers and presented at conferences internationally. He has also been involved in organising several conferences and workshops, such as the 3rd International Scenario Forum Conference, (dis)Covering Discourses, the GSAI Annual Conference, Austria Days, and more recently the Scenario Forum Online Research Colloquium Series, which has been running since summer 2020, as well as the Scenario Forum Symposium in June 2021. In August 2022, he was co-section head for the section on performative teaching in German language teaching at the International Conference for German Teachers (IDT) in Vienna with over 2,800 delegates.

His research interest lies in critical applied linguistic as well as language teaching pedagogy. He is currently completing a part-time PhD project researching the beliefs of OeAD-lecturers (Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalisation) about language teaching and specifically about performative approaches, supervised by Dr Barbara Siller (UCC), Prof. emeritus Manfred Schewe (UCC) and Prof. Susanne Even (Indiana University, USA).

Since Winter 2017, Dragan is co-editor of the Scenario Journal, a double-blind peer-reviewed journal in the area of performative teaching, learning and research.
