Silvia Arroyo

Biography

Dr. Arroyo obtained her Bachelor degree in English Philology at the University of Granada, Spain (1998), and completed her Master's and her PhD at the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA (2003-2011). Her area of specialization is the Spanish Golden Age. 

Research Interests

Dr Arroyo's research focuses on Spanish Golden Age literature and science, with an interest in topics such as:
  • Early modern medicine
  • Scientific allegories in literature
  • Baroque theatre or "comedia nueva"
  • Early Modern astrology and astronomy
  • The body as depicted in both literature and science
  • Monstrosity
  • Sensory perception (mainly the visual)
  • Gender, the representation of women in Early Modern literature.

Coordinator of the BCOMM HS programme

Responsibilities:
 organizing informative sessions, serving as liaison between students and UCC International Office, assisting students in filling forms for their Study Abroad, communicating with host institutions abroad, acting as academic advisor for students abroad, managing the compulsory year abroad for Third-Year students.

The UCC Spanish Golden Age Symposium is a biannual academic event that provides a forum for the exchange of high quality research and facilitates the renewal of research networks in Golden Age Studies in Ireland, the UK and beyond.
