Biography:

BA (Theatre Directing, University of Arts, Belgrade), MA (The School of Drama, The University of Oklahoma), PhD (Theatre Studies, Royal Holloway, University of London)







Aleksandar studied directing with Professor Miroslav Belovic at Conservatoire for Theatre Directing, Belgrade and with Professor David Bradby and obtained a PhD in Theatre Studies from Royal Holloway, University of London in 1999. In 2000 he founded  the internationally award winning  theatre company Theatre Kolectiv Ltd. in Liverpool.





Before taking up the post of Senior Lecturer and Head of Department of Drama & Theatre Studies in Cork in 2011 he was a senior lecturer in theatre performance in Drama Department, at The University of Manchester, UK where he taught theatre practice at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His teaching experience also includes posts at Brunel University, London and Liverpool Hope University. His research focuses on Contemporary Theatre Performance (interdisciplinary performance, directing and devising), political theatre, Latin American  t heatre, and the cross-overs between film and theatre. He has published extensively on Robert Lepage, theatre directing and devising, and contemporary performance practice.





He was visiting professor at the Theatre Postgraduate Program in the University of Sao Paulo, in Brazil in 2007. In 2009 he received the prestigious Leverhulme Trust Research Award to work for a year on Brazilian Contemporary Theatre Directing. His edited book Contemporary Brazilian Theatre published by McGill -Queen's University Press is expected at  the end of 2012. Dr. Dundjerovic has been commissioned by Cambridge University Press to contribute to the edited book "Shakespeare Beyond English: A Global Experiment". The book is part of Globe to Globe – World Shakespeare Festival 2012 which is presenting 37 plays in 37 languages in April and May 2012 at the Globe Theatre, London as part of Cultural Olympiad.
