Dr Michelle Carr is a faculty member at the Cork University Business School. Her research interests lie broadly in the relationship between the operation of management control practices and their effect on motivation and performance. Dr Carr completed her doctoral dissertation at Dublin City University (DCU) which focused on the role of management control practices in a healthcare context during an economic and fiscal crisis.

Research Interests

Michelle's PhD research focused on examining the responses of individuals to pressures induced by management control practices during an economic and fiscal crisis. To date, Michelle's research has also investigated clinician awareness of cost information, the role of education in improving resource efficiency and the implementation of interventions designed to improve resource efficiency. She has presented at numerous international and national conferences, and her findings have been published in research journals. She was awarded the Edward Cahill prize for the Best Paper published in the Irish Accounting and Finance Review over a three-year period. Michelle has received research funding to support her research activities
