Biography

Linda Murphy (PhD, MSc, BA) began her career in her own family business in Cork at a young age. A graduate of University College Cork, she has a BA in European Studies and an MSc by Research (Commerce) from the National University of Ireland. After managing her own family business for a number of years, she joined University College Cork as a lecturer in Management in 2008, where she teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate level. She has completed the Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Teaching and Learning. Under the guidance of Professor Matti Koiranen, she registered with Jyväskylä for her doctoral studies in August, 2008. She partook in the double doctorate programme between Jyväskylä University and Hasselt University. She was granted sabbatical leave from University College Cork for six months in 2011 and went to Hasselt to progress her doctoral studies under Professor Frank Lambrechts. She was awarded a double doctorate degree from Jyvaskyla University and Hasselt University in January, 2014. She currently teaches on a number of undergraduate and postgraduate level management modules at University College Cork, including her own specialism, Family Business Management. She has directed the MSc in Management and Marketing and the Bachelor of Commerce degree. 

Research Interests

I am interested in continuity and sustainability of family businesses. My PhD, which I have published from, focused on careers of next generation family members, including career choices, knowledge and learning in family businesses and socioemotional wealth.

Interested in how the bridge between theory and practice can be enhanced in preparing our students for the working world.
