Biography:

Dr Áine Ryall is a graduate of UCC (BCL, LLB) and of the London School of Economics (LLM).  She holds a PhD in European Union environmental law from the European University Institute, Florence. She is also a barrister and was called to the Irish Bar in 1995.  Prior to UCC, Áine Ryall worked as Legal Officer with the national housing organisation Threshold at its Dublin office.  

In February 2010, she was appointed to the Environmental Protection Agency Review Group by the Minister for Environment, Heritage and Local Government.  The Group's Report is available at: www.environ.ie/en/Environment/EPAReview/

Áine Ryall is a member of the Education, Awareness and Research Committee of the Private Residential Tenancies Board (www.prtb.ie) and a member of the Academic Panel at Francis Taylor Building, Inner Temple, London (www.ftb.eu.com)

Áine Ryall's research interests lie in the fields of EU environmental law and residential landlord and tenant law.  Current environmental law projects include: implementation of Directive 2003/4/EC on public access to environmental information; the impact of the Aarhus Convention and EU obligations on access to justice in environmental matters at national level (including the impact on rules governing judicial review); and communicating EU environmental law rights to the public.

She is currently working to complete a major research project on the Residential Tenancies Act 2004 to be published by Round Hall entitled Residential Tenancies Act: Law and Practice
