Fidelma White

Biography

Fidelma White is a graduate of University College Cork (UCC), obtaining an LL.M. by research, on "The Irish Ombudsman" in 1990. In 1991, she graduated from the London School of Economics with an LL.M. in International Business Law and, in 2009, was awarded a Higher Doctorate based on Published Research (LL.D.) by the National University of Ireland. From 1991 to 1995 she taught Commercial Law and Public Law at the University of Sheffield. She has been a lecturer at UCC since 1995 and was appointed Senior Lecturer in 2004. She has acted as a consultant for government departments, the National Consumer Agency, and the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, and, as a national legal expert for the European Parliament and the European Commission in various studies.  Her research interests include commercial law, e-commerce law; and consumer law and she welcomes PhD applicants in these areas.

European Civil Code – Working Group on Representation
F.White was the national reporter to the Working Group Representation (Agency and other Intermediaries), under the Chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Marco B.M. Loos of Amsterdam Institute for Private Law. This work fed into the drafting of a codified set of Principles of European Law for the law of obligations and core aspects of the law of property. This research was funded within the EU’s Sixth Framework Program. Results were published in Loos et al, Mandate Contracts, (Munich: Sellier European Law Publishers, 2013) xxxiv + 549 pages.

2005-2006: EU Consumer Compendium Part 1: acted as the national correspondent on this EU Commission funded project which reviewed 8 consumer law directives as part of the Commission’s wider projects in the European Contract Law field. The project involved creating a database which brings together all the domestic rules on consumer law which were adopted to implement the various EC consumer law directives, followed by a comparative analysis of these rules.
