Frances Shiely

Biography

Frances Shiely, PhD Epidemiology (UL), MA Teaching and Learning (UCC), PG Diploma Clinical Trials (U of Edin.) is a Senior Lecturer in Patient-Focused Research jointly appointed to the HRB Clinical Research Facility and the School of Public Health, UCC.  Frances is Director of Education at the HRB CRF-UCC and UCC PI for the HRB Trials Methodology Research Network.  She is founder and Director of the MSc Clinical Trials (online) which launched in UCC in September 2018. She is the PI and Director of TRAMS (Trials Research and Methodologies Unit) and Trial Forge at UCC. Frances has supervised 8 PhD students to completion, currently supervises 3 others, and has extensive experience supervising MSc, MPH and undergraduate projects.  Frances' main research interest is clinical trials methodology research to improve efficiency, communication and inclusivity in clinical trials in which she had her team of senior postdoctoral researchers, research assistants, student scholars and supervisees publish frequently. She leads EU and national grants with international collaborators in the UK, Europe and Canada.

My research areas are: clinical trials; SWATS; clinical trial methodology; risk taking behaviour; physical activity and diet related research for the prevention of disease.
