Research Interests

1.       1997.  Theses for the Membership of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine while working as Specialist Registrar with the Department of Public Health, Southern Health Board, Cork, concerned the Quality of Life of Patients living with Chronic Mental Illness. The aim was to identify the quality of life of patients living in the community with chronic mental illness, at a time when institutions for patients with chronic mental illness were closing; with a view to identifying gaps in services where patients were having difficulty coping with their environment.

2.       1998. Acute Coronary Syndrome and Chronic Infection. Co-ordinator of the 5C Project, community case control study investigating the role of chronic infection in Acute Coronary Syndrome in 200 patients admitted to CCUs in Cork city and compared to 500 patients from a similar background without coronary heart disease

3.       2007 . European Autism Information Systems. Research project commissioned by the European Commission to identify incidence and prevalence of autism in various countries in the European  Union with a view to arriving at a consensus concerning definition of Autism and autism like conditions within the Framework of the European Union
