Biography
Since September 2014, Dervla has been Department Manager and Co-ordinator for the HRB Centre for Diet & Health Research in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. Dervla is also currently enrolled as a PhD Student in University College Cork. She holds a Masters Degree in Occupational Health, Safety and Ergonomics from National University of Ireland, Galway. Dervla has successfully completed a B.Sc (Hons) in Physiology from University College Cork and also successfully completed the NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management. Prior to her PhD, she worked as a Health and Safety Consultant for three years. Her specialist area was ergonomics and this is where she developed her keen interest in the prevention and/or reduction of WRMSDs. Dervla’s PhD is in the area of Occupational Health and focuses on work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) in Hand Intensive Healthcare Occupations. The data been used for this PhD comes from the HITS Study which was funded by the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH). She is a Graduate Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, Member of the Irish Ergonomics Society and a Student Member of the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology. She is Communications Officer & Membership Secretary on the Irish Ergonomics Society Committee and Editor of the Society Newsletter.Research Interests
