Dr Karen Matvienko-Sikar is health psychologist with research interests and expertise in maternal and child health, particularly prenatal health and well-being, stress, and childhood obesity.
Karen is currently a lecturer in the School of Public Health. She is also a Health Research Board Applying Research into Policy and Practice Fellow, conducting research on reduction of parental stress in the period from conception to 2 years postpartum (the first 1000 days).
Karen was awarded the European Association for the Study of Obesity New Investigator Award in Childhood Obesity (2020); the European Health Psychology Society Stan Maes Early Career Award (2019); and the from the Psychological Society of Ireland Division of Health Psychology Hannah McGee Award for Excellence in Research/Practice (2018). She is also Royal Irish Academy Charlemont Scholar and a Catalyst of the Berkeley Initiative for Transparency in the Social Sciences.
