Zubair Kabir

Biography

A graduate in Medicine (M.B.,B.S) from India in 1990; a post-graduate in Public Health Medicine (M.D) from India in 1996; a Senior Resident in Community Medicine (Jan 1997-Sept 1999) at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India; an Indo-Irish Government Aid Scholar (1999-2000) to pursue an MSc in Public Health at Trinity College Dublin; a PhD scholar (Trinity Post Graduate Scholar) from 2001-2004 in Respiratory Medicine (Lung cancer epidemiology) in Trinity College Dublin.

My post-doc positions were in Trinity College Dublin (2004-2006); at Harvard School of Public Health and Tobacco Free Research Institute Ireland (2006-2008) on a National Cancer Institute-Health Research Board Joint Cancer Research Fellowship to work on tobacco control.

Worked as a Senior Post-Doc Research Fellow at TobaccoFree Research Institute Ireland and in Trinity College Dublin between Sept 2008 and Aug 2012) on tobacco control and cardiovascular disease modelling respectively before joining as a Senior Lecturer (Permanent) at the Department of Epidemiology & Public Health in University College Cork in Sept 2012.

I also had a joint affiliation (non-academic faculty) as a Visiting Scientist with the Center for Global Tobacco Control, Harvard School of Public Health (US) between September 2008 and June 2013.

I am on the editorial board of several journals: the BMC Public Health, the International Journal of Environmental Research & Public Health (IJERPH), and Editor-in-Chief of Tobacco Use Insights since January 2009.

I was PI on several HRB-funded research grants between 2006 and 2012 , and a co-PI on research grants from the FAMRI (US), the Irish Heart Foundation, and the Royal City of Dublin Hospital Trust.
 Currently, a co-lead on work package 1 of the HRB Centre for Health & Diet Research (CHDR) - population health disease modelling.

I am a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health ("FRSPH"), United Kingdom; a member of the American College of Epidemiology ("MACE"); a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland (RAMI); a Fellow of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene (RSTMH); and was elected a Fellow to the American College of Chest Physicians in October 2014 ("FCCP").  I sit on the Membership Board of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
