Rena Young is the Lead for Clinical Practice Education in Diagnostic Radiography within the Discipline of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy. Rena is a registered radiographer with over two decades of clinical experience, specialising in Computed Tomography (CT) Imaging. Rena's academic journey began with her Bachelor of Radiography degree from University College Dublin in 1993. She then dedicated over 20 years to clinical radiography working in prominent hospitals in Dublin and Cork. Her roles include positions at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin, South-Infirmary Victoria Hospital, and Mercy University Hospital in Cork, where she excelled as the CT Clinical Specialist, overseeing the management of the CT imaging service. To further her expertise, Rena pursued post-graduate qualifications in Health Services Management (1998) and CT Imaging (2002) at the University of Bradford. Her clinical research interests focus on optimising CT acquisition protocols, enhancing contrast media delivery, and utilisation of advanced medical imaging techniques to improve pathways for enhanced patient care. Rena's dedication to education is evident in her substantial contributions to radiography and interprofessional education. She completed a Master's in Health Professions' Education at University College Cork (UCC) in 2021, conducting research on radiography education in clinical settings. She is a key driver in developing interprofessional education (IPE) initiatives within the College of Medicine and Health, aiming to integrate IPE activities that foster practice-ready graduates capable of delivering integrated, patient-centred healthcare. Rena also serves on the Education Advisory Committee to the CORU Council, the regulatory body for Health & Social Care Professions in Ireland. Here, she leverages her extensive expertise in clinical practice and health professions' education to continuously enhance the education and professional development of all health and social care professionals.
