Education:

Registered Nurse in Intellectual Disability (RNID); MSc in Intellectual Disability Studies; BNS; PGDipTLHE, PG Cert in Behaviour Therapy.

Clinical Experience: I qualified as a Registered Nurse in Intellectual Disabilities (RNID) in 1994 and following registration worked as a staff nurse and clinical nurse specialist in behaviour until 2004.

Teaching: I joined University College Cork in 2005 as the curriculum developer for the Postgraduate Diploma in Multiple and Complex Disabilities. I was appointed as a lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, U.C.C. in 2006 and coordinated the Postgraduate Diploma in Multiple and Complex Disabilities until 2013. In September 2013 I became the Programme Leader for the BSc in Nursing (Intellectual Disability) and currently teach on the BSc undergraduate nursing programme. 

Research interests: Palliative care,communication, quality of life, physical health needs and the impact these topics have on the lives of those with an intellectual disability.
