Biography
I am a college lecturer with a clinical background in perioperative nursing practice. My teaching interests include: professional issues, perioperative nursing, teaching and learning, breast care, nursing science and nursing research. I am involved in the supervision of students undertaking Masters and Doctoral research.
Research Interests
My research interests are around the area of women's breast symptom discovery and their associated help seeking behaviour. I am currently undertaking a Cochrane systematic review on interventions to promote breast awareness for women.
Studies completed to date are:
- PhD study (Dec 2011) titled "Women's help seeking behaviour and the associated influencing factors on self-discovery of a breast symptom" in the School of Nursing & Midwifery at University College Cork, under the supervision of Professor Josephine Hegarty.
- Study entitled "Factors influencing women in seeking help from a Health Care Professional on self-discovery of a breast symptom, in an Irish context" (2006- 2007). This study was funded by The Martha McMenamin Memorial Scholarship.
- MSc dissertation (February, 2000) entitled "Women's lived experience of breast biopsy: A phenomenological study.
