Research Profile

Sile Creedon

Biography

My background is in nursing and midwifery. I am a college lecturer teaching undergraduate and postgraduate nurses and midwives in University College Cork. My areas of expertise are infection control in hospital settings, health informatics and research.

I am currently exploring possible links between healthcare workers perceptions of their work environment and infection control in acute care hospitals in Ireland. I am also exploring healthcare workers ICT competencies in Irish healthcare settings.

I am interested in exploring how individuals teach and learn, particularly those with a disability of any type.

Research Interests

As part of a research team, I have recently been awarded funding from the Erasmus Life Long Learning for a European diabetes project with partners in Finland, Lithuania and Estonia. I have also received funding from ECOLAB pharmaceutical company in relation to my PhD study - total funding awarded : 408,919.00. I review manuscripts for the American Journal of Infection Control and I am also on the editorial board of the Open Access Journal. I speak nationally and internationally at research conferences - mainly related to the area of infection control but also on the area of Informatics. I have led a multidisciplinary research project (invited by HSE West) in investigating healthcare workers hand hygiene practices in four acute care hospitals and findings will be published in an Infection Control Journal in December 2008
