Research Interests

In eukaryotic cells, endosomal trafficking is an essential cellular process which controls the uptake, transport, recycling and degradation of various cellular material. Among the material that is trafficked through endosomes are proteins such as growth factor receptors as well as a further class of cell surface receptors, termed integrins, which mediate cell attachment to its surrounding tissues. When aberrant endosomal trafficking occurs, this sometimes results in altered trafficking of key endosomal-cargo which can contribute to carcinogenesis by altering processes such as the down regulation of growth factor signalling or enhancing integrin-mediated invasive migration of cancer cells which is required for cancer metastasis.

My principal research interests lie in the area of Rab GTPase-mediated control of endosomal trafficking during physiological cellular processes as well as during invasive migration of cancer cells. I am particularly interested in a protein termed Rab25, which regulates endosomal trafficking events in epithelial cells and has also been shown to drive receptor-recycling during invasive cancer cell migration.
