Research Profile

Laura O'Sullivan

Biography

Dr Laura O'Sullivan qualified with an honours degree from Cork University Dental Hospital in 2009.  She then completed two years of postgraduate training in the Wales Deanery, with a focus on oral surgery and oral medicine. After a stint in Australia delivering dental treatment to residents in care home facilities, she spent a few years working in general practice before settling her focus on oral surgery.

Laura has held a number of busy oral surgery hospital posts in Cardiff, Nottingham and Dublin.  She returned to Cork in 2018 to complete her specialist training, graduating with a first class honours and to date, the highest mark ever achieved in the DClinDent programme.  Her thesis looked at quality of life outcomes for patients undergoing wisdom tooth surgery.

Laura has a vested interest in undergraduate and postgraduate education, and has completed her diploma in teaching and learning through UCC.  She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals with some of her early research on paracetamol overdose receiving coverage on the BBC.  Laura has also received a number of prestigious awards for research presented at international conferences.
