A.K.M. Mahtab Hossain received his B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology) in 2003. He then received his M.Eng. in Computer Science from AIT (Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand) in 2005, and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from NUS (National University of Singapore) in 2010. He joined the Mobile & Internet Systems Laboratory (MISL) of University College Cork (UCC), Ireland in January, 2013. Prior to that, he worked as a Research Specialist in Internet Education and Research Laboratory (intERLab) of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. He served as an Educator at different points of his life in Asian Institute of Technology of Thailand, and Asian University for Women (AUW): the first regional liberal arts institution in South Asia, United International University, and Stamford University of Bangladesh
His research interests include indoor localization, wireless sensor networks, mobile IP, wireless communications and mobile/vehicular ad-hoc networks. His Google Scholar Citations can be found here.
Research InterestsMy research interests lie in topics related to Computer Networks and Wireless Communications. I am currently focusing on devising new techniques for providing assured robustness for control loops, and to evaluate these techniques by middleware implementation on a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) platform. I have also worked on indoor localization techniques using off-the-shelf devices, and also on mobile ad-hoc routing protocols like OLSR, and vehicular ad-hoc networking protocols. During my PhD study, I proposed a robust RF location fingerprint named 'Signal Strength Difference (SSD)' addressing mobile devices' heterogeneity for indoor localization techniques.
Current Project @ University College Cork, Ireland:
- My current research focuses on "Middleware Techniques for Robust Control in Cyber-Physical Systems" under the guidance of Prof. Cormac J. Sreenan. We are devising new techniques for providing assured robustness for control loops, and to evaluate these techniques by middleware implementation on a WSN.This research is funded by Irish Research Council and United Technologies Research Centre Ireland Ltd under the Enterprise Partnership Scheme.
- Also involved in a Wireless Sensor Network Innovation Needs Assessment IERC (International Energy Research Centre) project.
Past ProjectsWhile working as a Research Specialist @ intERLab, Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, I participated in various research projects, and also partly contributed to a few research grant proposal writing.
- DUMBO-FIBO Collaboration: Utilizes robots for disaster recovery networks by forming ad-hoc networks (Grant Amount: 1.85 Million Baht).
- carTalk: Investigates on V2V communication for accident/traffic information propagation (Grant Amount: 1.89 Million Baht). Main author to drafting this proposal.
- A CISCO grant project that investigates multicast on Delay-Tolerant Network (DTN) (Grant Amount: 56,000 USD).
During my Ph.D., I worked under the guidance of my supervisor Dr. Wee-Seng Soh for his research project "Indoor Location Tracking" (Grant Amout: 115K SGD).
