Alan Desmond

BIOGRAPHY

Alan Desmond is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Law, University College Cork. He holds a first class honours BCL (Law & Irish) and a first class honours LLM (Criminal Justice) from UCC. His PhD thesis, conducted under the supervision of Professor Siobhán Mullally, investigates the situations in which irregular migrants in the EU may have a right to a legal status. He has been a Visiting Researcher at the University of Warsaw, Harvard Law School and UCLA School of Law. His research has been funded by the UCC Faculty of Law and by the Irish Research Council. His research interests include EU law, human rights law, migration law and the ethics of immigration. Between his undergraduate and postgraduate studies, Alan taught Irish at the Catholic University of Lublin in Poland. During his time in Poland, Alan contributed regularly to the print and broadcast media in Ireland and wrote several Irish language books, a number of which were prizewinners at the Oireachtas na Gaeilge literary awards.
