Research Profile

Briony Supple

Biography

I am a College Lecturer in Teaching and Learning Enhancement. My role in CIRTL is co-ordinating and teaching on the fully online Certificate and Diploma in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. I also co-ordinate, teach and supervise the Masters in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. My other teaching activities involve input into summer, autumn and winter schools for visiting scholars from China, South America and Europe.

I hold a PhD in Education, awarded in 2013, from Monash University Australia, the focus of which was inclusion and access for international students with a disability at one university in Australia. My research publications to date have focused on inclusive education from a Bourdieuian perspective and issues around student peer mentoring in higher education. Originally trained in TESOL (Teaching English as a Second or Other Language) I have taught in Japan, China, Vietnam, Ireland, the UK, Chile and Australia. I have extensive experience in the use of learner-centred pedagogical approaches to curriculum and assessment, developing innovative resources for both face-to-face and blended delivery modes, and in delivering professional development in higher education.

My current research interests are around how technology enhanced learning can be conceptualised from a SoTL perspective and embedded into professional development for academics. I am also working on a number of international projects around assessment of/for/as learning, and the influence of learning spaces on teaching practice.
