Research Profile

Frances Drummond

Biography

Cancer survivorship, cancer health services and health literacy are my primary research interests.

After her PhD in Biochemistry Dr Drummond changed her main research focus to the patient. Frances joined the Department of Medicine investigating the genetics and environmental factors involved in the development of osteoporosis.

Dr Drummond’s research focus then turned to cancer health services (screening, diagnosis and treatment) and patient reported outcomes, including the quality of life of patients and survivors. She was the research coordinator/project manager for a number of national and international projects in the National Cancer Registry.

Her research has been funded by the Health Research Board, Irish Cancer Society, Breakthrough Cancer Research, Prostate Cancer UK and TRAP as principal investigator, co-investigator and collaborator (total €729,313). She has more than 40 peer-reviewed publications and has authored/co-authored reports to national bodies including the National Cancer Screening Service, National Cancer Control Programme, Irish Cancer Society and the National Clinical Effectiveness Committee to inform policy.

Dr Drummond also has an honours degree in Applied Social Studies and Counselling and is currently working towards becoming an accredited counselor/psychotherapist.
