Bill Wright was awarded a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering in 1991 and a PhD studying air-coupled ultrasonic testing of materials in 1996 from the University of Warwick, UK. From 1991 to 1997 he was employed as a Research Associate and Research Fellow in the University of Warwick, where he investigated laser-generation and air-coupled detection of ultrasound, capacitive ultrasonic transducers, and charge-writing for nanotechnology. In 1997 he moved to Ireland to take up a post as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering in University College Cork, where he is currently Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering, Director of the Ultrasonics Research Group, and Programme Director for the MEngSc in Mechanical Engineering. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, an Associate Editor of IEEE Trans UFFC and a Member of the Acoustical Society of America. His research interests include applications of non-contact ultrasound, capacitive ultrasonic transducers, ultrasonic flow metering, ultrasonic imaging, elastography, and ultrasonic communication systems.

Research Interests

My areas of research are capacitive ultrasonic transducers, non-contact ultrasonic measurements, ultrasonic flow measurement and ultrasonic communications. I am the director of the Ultrasonics Research Group (http://ultrasonics.ucc.ie/)  in the School of Engineering, UCC. My current research interests include capacitive ultrasonic transducer design and manufacture, non-contact ultrasonic measurements and remote monotoring, ultrasonic flow metering in gases, ultrasonic capacitive micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), and ultrasonic communication systems and applications.
