Research Profile

Dario Fernandez-Bellon

Biography

Darío completed his degree in Biology (specializing in ecology, botany and zoology) at the University of Barcelona (BSc + taught MSc) in 2005. In 2012 he undertook an MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation Biology at Doñana Biological Station in Sevilla. Since 2005 he has worked on a range of projects across the world, focusing on the ecology of endangered avian species, identifying threats to their populations and to their habitats and using findings to design and implement appropriate conservation actions.
  • Raptor persectuion in Europe (U. Barcelona / Spain)
  • Little Bustard breeding ecology and dispersal (U. Barcelona / Spain)
  • Seabird IBA's (SEO-BirdLife / Spain)
  • Cinereous Vulture population ecology (Doñana Research Station / Spain)
  • Harpy Eagle reintroduction programme (The Peregrine Fund / Panama)
  • Solitary Crowned Eagle conservation project (Environment Dept. / Argentina)
  • Cooperative breeding and dispersal in the Ant-eating Chat (U. Uppsala / South Africa)
  • Ridgway's Hawk reintroduction programme (The Peregrine Fund / Dominican Republic)
  • Shannon Callows & machair wader research (BWI-BirdLife / Ireland)
  • Merlin ecology and survey methodologies (BWI-BirdLife / Ireland)
  • Kestrel, Barn Owl & Long-eared Owl monitoring (BWI-BirdLife / Ireland)

Darío is currently based at the School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences at University College Cork, where he is involved in two main lines of research:
