Research Profile

Biography

Caroline Shore is a college lecturer and 1st Year Coordinator on the Master of Social Work course at University College Cork. She has worked as a social worker and senior social work practitioner in child protection and welfare in the Western and Southern Regions of the Child and Family Agency. Her research and teaching interests are in the areas of child protection and welfare, skills development for professional practice, values and ethics in social work, cultural competence and the role of teaching and learning in student professional formation. She is a member of a Transnational Social Work Education Research Group carrying out a longitudinal study of the preparedness for practice of social work students; an All-Ireland Research group exploring the profile and learning needs of student social workers across the country; and an inter-disciplinary research group on child care proceedings in the District Court.
Caroline is a member of the Social Work Development Committee (UCC) and the Child Protection and Welfare Conference and Research committee which is a joint partnership between the Social Work Development Unit, the Irish Association of Social Workers Southern Branch and the Child and Family Agency South. She is also a member of the CFA South Foster Care Committee in an independent professional role.
Caroline holds an MA in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and is a UCC CIRTL Fellow.
The Child Care Proceedings in the District Court research team of which Caroline is a member, won the UCC Research Team of the Year Award for 2016 (with Kenneth Burns, Conor O'Mahony and Aisling Parkes).
Caroline was a recipient of the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching, in 2012 (joint award with Kenneth Burns).
Caroline continues to be connected with child protection and welfare practice through her work as a Freelance Guardian ad litem with Barnardos.





Research Interests

 
Current member of All-Ireland Social Work Education and Research Group exploring the backgrounds, motivations and education/career trajectories of social work students.

Current member of Transnational Social Work Education Research Group exploring social work students' readiness for professional practice.

Current member of Biennial Child Protection and Welfare Social Work Conference Committee.

Recently completed a Masters in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education: researching values development as an element of professional formation in social work students.

Member of a research group with colleagues from Law and Applied Social Studies, researching Child Care Proceedings in the District Court (2011 - 2017).

Member of research group with colleagues from Applied Social Studies and the Hope Foundation, Cork and Kolkata, in 2008 to pilot and develop learning materials on childhood and diversity in the areas of, Child Labour, Child Trafficking, HIV/AIDS, Child Abuse and Religion and Ethnicity.
