Biography
I work as a clinical teacher of undergraduate dental students in the paediatric clinic of Cork University Dental School and Hospital. I also work as a primary dental care provider to children up to the age of 16 years for the Health Service Executive. I have a strong background in dental public health research (awarded a PhD in 2008) and work in collaboration with the Oral Health Services Research Centre Cork in ongoing research in the area of fluorides.
Research Interests
I have a genuine interest in Dental Public Health. I was awarded a PhD in the area of measuring the impact of enamel fluorosis (the only proven risk associated with water fluoridation) on dental aesthetics and quality of life. I am currently a member of the Topical Fluoride Group which has investigated the impact of topical fluorides in the prevention of dental decay. I am also a member of the FACCT (Fluoride and Caring for Children's Teeth) team in which we are exploring the impact of the recent reduction in the level of fluoride in the Irish water supplies on dental decay and enamel fluorosis in Ireland. I am a gold standard examiner in indices to measure enamel fluorosis prevalence and also have been involved in developing more objective methods of measuring it.

Teaching Activities
Teaching Interests
I currently teach and supervise undergraduate dental students in the provision of primary dental care to children in the clinical setting. I also periodically lecture post-graduate Masters students on Quality of Life and Oral Health Related Quality of Life based on research from my PhD.
I encourage problem-based learning and case-based learning.
