Margaret Curtin

Biography

Margaret Curtin is a lecturer in the School of Nursing.  She previously worked in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, UCC as a researcher with the Irish Focal Point to the European Centre for Monitoring on Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA).  She was also the Assistant Director for Networks and Knowledge Translation with the SPHeRE Programme.

Her research interests are in the area of Early Childhood Development, including community-based approaches to prevention and early intervention.  She is a member of the Management Committee and leads the research sub-group for the Young Knocknaheeny ABC Programme.  She completed a PhD in Health Service Research as part of the Health Research Board funded PhD Scholars programme.   

Her background is in community development and health and she led the NICHE project in Cork from its inception in 1998 to 2007.  She also has six years experience working in developing countries and was contracted by Irish Aid as an external consultant to conduct appraisal of applications for their Civil Society Fund.

She holds a MSc(econ) Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics and is a General and Paediatric Nurse.
