Maksudul Hasan

Biography

Maksudul Hasan received a B.Sc. (Honors) and M.Sc. both in chemistry from Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1998 and 2000, respectively. He graduated with an M.Sc. in Electrochemistry from Katholieke University Leuven, Belgium in 2005, and a Ph.D. in chemistry from University College Cork, Ireland in 2010.

In 2010, he joined Tyndall National Institute as a Postdoctoral Researcher. Dr. Hasan is electrochemist and active member of The Electrochemical Society. He was awarded Electrochemical Society Battery Division Travel Grant to the 215th Electrochemical Society Meeting, San Francisco, USA, in May 2009. He had received a Higher Education Authority, Ireland Scholarship for pursuing his Ph.D. (2006–2010) on topic “Micro Lithium Ion Advanced Integrated Rechargeable Batteries”. In 2012, he was awarded Irish Research Council (IRC) Enterprise Partnership Scheme Postdoctoral (EPSPD) Fellowship with a collaboration of Alcatel Lucent Ireland Ltd as industrial partner. Dr. Hasan was awarded IRC Marie Curie co-funded Elevate fellowship in 2014, and currently undertaking the international mobility phase of this fellowship at the University of Oxford. He is simultaneously affiliated with the Electrochemical Materials and Energy research group at Tyndall.

Research Interests

My research is pursuing nanostructure based approaches to compact electrochemical energy storage and conversion devices while excelling the electrochemical performances.  My core research interests lie in the area of energy and electrocatalysis that involve design, synthesis and characterisation of high surface area three-dimensional micro electrodes and core-shell nanotubes/nanowires, heterogeneous/composite nanostructure materials system for applications in electrochemical power sources for fuel cells and energy storage, solar fuels and hydrogen energy as well as electrochemical sensors. The objectives of my research are to improve electrochemical performances in terms of energy density, power density, safety, cycleability and cost, as well as to reduce overall environmental footprint.
