High-grade metamorphism and tectonics ·Tectonic and metamorphic evolution, geochemistry and geochronology of Precambrian Gneiss Terrains · Tectonic and metamorphic evolution of the Neoproterozoic East African Orogen in Western Ethiopia Environmental geology · Landfill site selection and investigation, leachate management and natural attenuation and waste degradation processes and rates, risk analysis of abandoned landfill sites – 3 part-time MSc students · Hydrogeology, in particular the impact of forestry on groundwater, the assessment and development of groundwater resources and urban groundwater problems · Geothermal energy, in particular, low enthalpy geothermal energy for space heating/cooling from groundwater in gravels; sourcing warm groundwater in north Cork; utilisation of low enthalpy geothermal energy for district heating; spatial requirements for horizontal loop heat collector arrays under Irish conditions; retrofitting social housing for geothermal heating; combining geothermal energy and small-scale hydropower for sustainable energy generation for commercial buildings – 1 part-time PhD student · Identification and delineation of buried valleys in SW Ireland‍
