The Critical Voices Network Ireland (CVNI) was launched at the 2nd critical perspective on mental health conference in 2010 in UCC. The CVNI is a network and coalition of individuals and national campaigning and advocacy groups, all looking for a mental health system not based on the traditional bio-medical model. The annual conference, now in its 7th year, is considered one of the most significant events of its kind nationally and internationally, attracting speakers and delegates from across the continents. The most recent conference (2014) was attended by over 500 delegates. This conference is unique as it is a free conference, involving people from diverse backgrounds (service users, professionals, academics, carers) presenting and debating, on an equal footing, critical and creative perspectives in mental health.
