Elizabeth Weathers

Biography

Dr. Elizabeth Weathers currently works as Research Support Officer in the Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation, University College Cork. Her role involves coordination of a national study implementing advance care planning in long-term care settings. Elizabeth also teaches part-time in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, UCC. She teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate modules, and supervises MSc students. Elizabeth completed her PhD in 2014 which was focused on the assessment of spirituality in individuals with chronic illness. She also works part-time as a Night Nurse with the Irish Cancer Society. Elizabeth was previously employed as a Research Assistant for Professor Geraldine McCarthy and was involved in many projects including international studies investigating nurses’ preferred end-of-life treatment options, nursing knowledge of advance directives, and nursing descriptions of caring. Furthermore, she was a member of the Planning Committee for the International Academy of Nursing Editors (INANE) Annual Conference July 2013. Other qualifications held by Elizabeth include an Accreditation in Logotherapy and Existential Analysis from the Viktor Frankl Institute of Ireland and a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in UCC.

Research Interests

Completed her PhD in November 2014. Elizabeth's thesis was focused on the concept of spirituality in individuals with chronic illness. Other research interests include palliative or end-of-life care, and care of the older adult.

Teaching Interests

Elizabeth has experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Modules include general nursing, research methods, care of the older adult, spiritual care, and palliative care. She also supervises MSc students in the School. She has also worked for the Disability Support Services in UCC which offers one-to-one tutoring for students. Elizabeth has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning at UCC.
