Maura Smiddy

Biography

I have a background in nursing and midwifery. My most recent clinical experience is as an Infection Prevention and Control Clinical Nurse Manager and I completed a Masters in Public Health in 2009 and was awarded a PhD (Medicine and Health) in 2019. I co-ordinate the postgraduate certificate in health protection, the postgraduate certificate in infection prevention and control and lecture on Health Protection at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. My research interest focuses on the prevention of hospital-acquired infection and provision of safe care to patients.

Research Interests

My research interest is infection prevention and control with a focus on patient safety.

Teaching Interests

My teaching interest lies in the area of Infection Prevention and Control and Health Protection, specifically related to the provision of safe quality care to patients. I also lecture in relation to the wider aspects of health protection and the global burden of communicable disease.
